The EU’s climate protection package, Fit for 5513, aims to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. To achieve this goal, the package creates a coherent and balanced framework. What is important is a fair and socially just transition that maintains and strengthens the innovation and competitiveness of EU industry, as well as a level playing field with economic players from third countries.
The measures resulting from Fit for 55 will have a significant impact on the construction and real estate sector. For example, the requirements for the uniform calculation and declaration of energy efficiency, renewable energies and CO₂ emissions from buildings will be increased. The package also includes a revision of both the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)14 and the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).
