Instructions
The specifications for the standards and guidelines to be applied in the project are set out in the rules and regulations for the BIM-related topics.
It is useful to specify not only the standards/guidelines, but also which version is used, especially if it is safe to do so.
It is recommended to include at least the following information:
- IFC specification
- openBIM standard
- CAD standard
- Data security
- Area determination
- Cost calculation
- Construction tolerances
- Building survey and documentation
- Life cycle data
Note on the IFC specification as an elementary standard for openBIM projects: A project implementation should always be in an IFC main version 4 (as long as IFC5 has not been introduced). Whether this is done in IFC4 Add2 TC1 (ISO 16739-1:2018) or in IFC4.3 Add2 (ISO 16739-1:2024) depends on whether the software used in the project is certified for the relevant MVD or whether it is a project that relies on IfcAlignment (only available from IFC4.3 Add2). A mixture of IFC versions within a project at technical model level must be avoided at all costs.
