The circular economy requires a large amount of product and component-related data. The construction and real estate industry therefore has a great interest in developing a suitable framework for providing this data that offers an open data structure and does not exclude small and medium-sized companies from the market.
Information on construction products or components is also provided in the digital space by manufacturers, distributors and companies. The products must be clearly identifiable and it must be possible to compare their key performance data on the basis of harmonized standards. To make them machine-interpretable in accordance with the IFC standard, they must consist of property, value and unit.
Data dictionaries offer the solution of uniquely identifying properties from standards regardless of the respective national language. For example, identical properties from different test standards can be easily distinguished for the algorithm. Data dictionaries enable the machine readability of product-related data by providing a uniform structure and terminology. In addition to the technical solution, it must also be possible to guarantee the data quality and ownership of the data by suitable means.
