The aim of Renovation Wave16 is to at least double the renovation rate of public and private buildings over the next ten years and to promote comprehensive renovations. With the aim of increasing both energy and resource efficiency, the initiative contributes to the following:
- Improving the quality of life of residents and/or building users
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 emissions)
- Promotion of digitization
- Increasing the recycling rate and reuse of materials
The Renovation Wave comprises an action plan with concrete regulatory, financial and support measures to overcome the existing barriers to building renovation. These include, among other things:
- the review and amendment of the EU directives on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD), energy efficiency (EED) and renewable energies (RED)
- the use of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for construction products and a Digital Building Logbook (DBL)
- the provision of accessible and targeted financing instruments, such as the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Cohesion Fund (CF) and many more.
