Switzerland cooperates with the EU in various areas of the European Green Deal, such as research and innovation or energy and transport. However, Switzerland is not involved in all aspects of the European Green Deal, such as the emissions trading system or carbon border adjustment.
The Swiss construction industry must adapt to Switzerland’s long-term Climate Strategy 2050. The EU taxonomy, which requires, among other things, that buildings meet a high energy efficiency standard and use renewable energies, will also have an impact on the Swiss construction and real estate industry, particularly on companies operating internationally or close to the border.
The Construction Products and European Affairs Division (FABEA)29 within the Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics (FOBL) is responsible for the implementation and further development of construction products legislation in Switzerland and the bilateral agreement with the EU in this economic sector. FABEA also carries out market surveillance for construction products and offers services such as the Product Information Office for the Construction Industry. FABEA also represents Switzerland’s interests at European level in relation to the FOBL’s strategic projects, such as digitalization, sustainability, SME policy and standardization.
