Chapter 10.3 – Product Data Dictionaries (PDD)

High-quality data on building materials and products is of central importance for the planning of sustainable and energy-efficient buildings. Today, this data has to be compiled manually from a variety of sources by the individual players in a planning team, which leads to a lack of transparency and redundant work. Ultimately, planners spend a lot of time searching the internet for product data and manually copying it into their software tools instead of focusing on developing the best possible solutions. The use of data dictionaries helps to improve the machine readability of data by providing a standardized structure and terminology for product information.

Thanks to international standardization and the uniform language in accordance with ISO 12006-3:202257, a high level of data consistency and accuracy is guaranteed. The use of a common platform for all project participants improves data integrity and consistency.
