The EU Database for Construction Products is a planned project proposed as part of the revision of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). The database will contain information on the declarations of performance (DoP) and CE marking of construction products available on the EU market. The database is intended to help users of construction products to assess the environmental impact and recyclability of products. The database will also facilitate market surveillance and enforcement of the CPR.
The database should ensure that all industry players in different regions can share construction product data in a standardized way. To this end, the future data infrastructure must be defined so that jointly usable product data is available in a structured manner and can be managed across all sectors.
As a first step, the European Commission invited tenders for a feasibility study63 , for which TECNALIA, Cobuilder and UNE were awarded the contract. Construction Products Europe, FIEC, EBC and GS1 are supporting members of the advisory group64.
The feasibility study will examine various options for setting up a database or system at EU level. To this end, combinations of centralized and decentralized solutions will be evaluated and the advantages and disadvantages analyzed from a technological perspective as well as from the perspective of various interest groups such as the EU Commission, manufacturers, market surveillance authorities and users. The study will run for 18 months and should be completed in the first half of 2025.
