Recognized standards are highly relevant for the digitalization of the construction and real estate industry. They define a common technical language. Standards are developed by a recognized standardization organization by consensus of an objection procedure. These organizations and their committees operate on three geographical levels:
Global:
- ISO (International Standardization Organization)
- IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)
- GS1 (Global Standard One, One Global Standard)
- UN/CEFACT (United Nations Center for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business)
- ITU (International Telecommunication Union)
- etc.
European:
- CEN (Comité Européen de Normalization)
- CENELEC (Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechnique)
- ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute)
- etc.
National:
- SNV (Swiss Association for Standardization)
- CRB (Swiss Central Office for Construction Rationalization)
- SIA (Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects)
- SEV (Swiss Electrotechnical Association; now Electrosuisse, Association for Electrical, Energy and Information Technology)
The development process and thus participation in the drafting of the standards / norms is open to anyone who meets the requirements for cooperation.
In order for an organization to be recognized by ISO as a so-called issuing agency – and thus be considered a global standardization organization – clear requirements must be met:
- Independent
- Not profit-oriented
- With a clearly defined process for creating, supplementing and decommissioning all standards.
